I had a rough week.
About the third day I started craving a bottle.
This is the bottle
There are currently 2 pictures of it on my phone camera roll.
The one above and this one.
You won’t believe the comments and likes you can get on Facebook by posting a picture of this.
It makes you a very popular person….well if you have my friends on Facebook, that is.
That bottle cures many things….
broken hearts, homesickness, sadness, hangovers, hunger pains….
I could go on and on.
What is this magic you ask.
This, my friends, is a bottle of Creamy Italian at the Mall Deli in Pittsburg, Kansas.
I saw that…..don’t roll your eyes until you hear what I have to say.
Then if you don’t believe me, ask my friends from college.
The Mall Deli is just that a deli in the mall.
No, it is not JUST sandwiches.
It’s a place for friends to meet up in the summer for a meal.
Back in 1989, a young me went to Pittsburg to be a Gorilla.
Once a Gorilla, Always a Gorilla!
I was so excited.
Then I did what I would have only done at a small university….I went through Rush.
I think they call it Recruitment now.
I was in a small Rush Group with this awesome leader who taught all of us about Wheat Thins and cream cheese and answered all of our questions.
At the end of those 3-4 days the majority of that small group ended up in the same sorority and started a friendship that would last.
Why am I going down memory lane?
I have a point….hang with me.
Here is our house.
My second year there I lived in that house with lots of other girls.
There were so many fun things and great memories.
The great grape game, coaster game, fire escape, baby powder, dancing in the front yard, farts in the room next door(you know who you are!), all night study sessions…..you know, all the typical college stuff.
But we had this..
You see, one of my Rush Group turned sorority sister worked at the Mall Deli.
Actually, her brother owns it, but details smetails.
She would “accidentally” bring some of that goodness home and it would be in the fridge.
Stock up on chips and you are set.
Yes, I said chips.
Mall Deli Creamy Italian is the best chip dip I have ever had.
It’s the best condiment for sandwiches and bagels with cheese too.
There are many wonderful places to eat in Pittsburg.
The potato salad here is the best I have ever had.
If you get there for lunch early enough you can get white gravy on your fries with your burger.
Onion rings too.
Yes, two chicken places.
They were on Food Wars.
I won’t give away the winner.
But for me and my friends it was the Deli.
A place to go for an Onion Bagel, sliced with Provolone melted on top.
Creamy Italian on the side.
Or Turkey Tuesday on a french roll, toasted, no onion.
And of course, Creamy Italian.
If you find yourself anywhere near Pittsburg, Kansas.
Go to the mall and visit Jim.
Tell him I said hello!
Pick up a bottle of Mall Deli Creamy Italian for the road.
Don’t try this at home with your own creamy Italian dressing.
It is not the same, TRUST ME!
If you need someone to go with you, holler at me.
I have been known to drive the 2 hours there for lunch.
